Caro Sweet spent her childhood in rural Buckinghamshire spending many hours in the woods and fields near her home. Her work is inspired by the wide, open spaces of the countryside, birdsong in beech tree canopies and humanity communing with nature.

With a background in drawing and printmaking, Caro's love for exploring different materials and new ways of approaching her subject matter led to the discovery of her passion for sculptural expression in clay. Her sculptures are ultimately cast in bronze.

"I love the cooperative atmosphere of the foundry. The collaboration of artists and foundry workers and the sharing of expertise and community spirit that is fostered as a sculpture is realised."

Caro's sculpture reminds us of our spiritual roots, our connectedness with nature and our uniqueness as human beings.

"I love birdsong in the early morning as the dew settles on the grass and the world wakes up; things that grow in our earth and cycles in nature - the moon, the seasons, the changing colours and shapes of our landscapes; the rhythm of life.

The magic and purposefulness of nature, the brilliant and faultless design of flowers; the community and cooperation of a hive of bees; gentle summer rain and tumultuous thunderstorms reminding us of the power of nature and the amazing world in which we live.

The tender touch of a mother with an infant in her arms; the outstretched hand of support and friendship; tiny movements, almost missed, the subtleties of human interaction.

Quiet moments of contemplation; elation and celebration; swooping swallows, the freedom of flight; the expansiveness of our skies, brilliant sunsets and deep blue seas.

These are the subjects that inspire my work."
